  • What is a Cavapoo?
A Cavapoo, also known as a Cavoodle in Australia, is a designer dog breed that is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle, usually a Miniature or Toy Poodle. This hybrid breed is known for its friendly temperament, intelligence, and hypoallergenic coat, making it a popular choice for families and individuals seeking a companion dog.
  • Do Cavapoo's Shed?
All dogs will shed, but where cavapoos have one parent at least who carries the non-shedding genes it will be greatly reduced. Cavapoos have hair instead of fur, which gives then that wonderful teddybear look, this means it’s usually just stray hairs here and there, that you will see, much like human hair shedding, rather than fur shedding that you would see in a Labrador, Cavalier, Bernese, Golden Retriever, Great Pyrenees etc.
  • Are Cavapoo's Hypoallergenic?
Cavapoos are usually hypoallergenic, but that’s not the same as non-allergenic. Hypoallergenic means having a decreased tendency to provoke an allergic response. There are NO non-allergenic dogs (meaning a dog that does not produce an allergic response). There are so many different causes for allergies, that it would be impossible to breed a totally hypo-allergenic dog. People who are allergic to dog saliva will be allergic to all dogs. People with other types of dog allergy, however, have found a high level of tolerance with certain breeds, such as the Poodle. This has traditionally been linked with the lack of coat shedding of these breeds. Recent thinking, however, suggests that the ‘dander’ free skin of these dogs is more responsible for the high tolerance level. Dander is the term for skin flakes found in animal hair and fur coats. In our experience people with mild allergies haven’t been affected by our puppies. If you have questions we would suggest doing a t-shirt test, prior to adopting one.
  • What is the average lifespan of a Cavapoo?
The average lifespan of a Cavapoo is 12-15 years.
  • How big do Cavapoos get?
Cavapoos typically range in size from 8-20 pounds, with a height of 8-14 inches at the shoulder.
  • What is the difference between Toy, Miniature and Standard Cavapoos?
Cavapoos come in various size categories. It is often based on the size of their Poodle parent and/or genetics. Typically, Cavapoos are categorized as follows: Toy Cavapoos: These are the smallest size category and are usually around 10-13 inches in height and weigh between 6-12 pounds. They are the result of breeding a Toy Poodle with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Miniature Cavapoos: Slightly larger than Toy Cavapoos, Miniature Cavapoos stand around 12-15 inches in height and weigh between 13-18 pounds. They are the offspring of a Miniature Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Standard Cavapoos: The largest size category, Standard Cavapoos can reach heights of 15-18 inches and weigh between 19-25 pounds. They are bred from a Standard Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. These size categories provide options for individuals seeking a Cavapoo that fits their lifestyle and living arrangements, whether it's a smaller Toy Cavapoo ideal for apartment living or a larger Standard Cavapoo suited for more space and activity.

This variety contributes to their unique and appealing appearance.

Frequency: Daily brushing is ideal to prevent mats and tangles. At a minimum, brushing every other day is recommended. Tools: Use a slicker brush or a comb designed for curly or wavy coats. Bathing: Frequency: Bathe your Cavapoo every 4-6 weeks or as needed. Over-bathing can strip their coat of natural oils. Products: Use a gentle dog shampoo and conditioner to keep their coat soft and manageable. Haircuts Professional Grooming: Frequency: Every 6-8 weeks, depending on how fast their hair grows and the desired length of the coat. Styles: Common styles include a teddy bear cut, a puppy cut, or a more natural trim that maintains their wavy or curly coat. Ears, Eyes, and Nails Ear Cleaning: Frequency: Check their ears weekly and clean them as needed to prevent infections. Method: Use a vet-approved ear cleaner and cotton balls to gently clean the outer ear. Eye Care: Frequency: Daily cleaning around the eyes to prevent tear stains, which Cavapoos can be prone to. Method: Use a damp cloth or vet-recommended eye wipes. Nail Trimming: Frequency: Trim their nails every 3-4 weeks to prevent overgrowth and discomfort. Method: Use a dog nail clipper or grinder, being careful not to cut into the quick. Dental Care Teeth Brushing: Frequency: Daily brushing is ideal, but at a minimum, aim for a few times a week. Products: Use a dog toothbrush and toothpaste specifically formulated for pets. By adhering to this grooming routine, you can ensure your Cavapoo stays healthy, comfortable, and looking their best. Regular grooming also provides an opportunity to check for any skin issues, parasites, or other health concerns.

  • How often should I bathe my Cavapoo?
Cavapoos should be bathed every 4-6 weeks, or as needed, depending on their activity level and coat condition. Use a mild dog shampoo to avoid skin irritation and ensure thorough rinsing to remove all shampoo residue.

  • Can I groom my Cavapoo at home or should I use a professional groomer?
While basic grooming such as brushing, ear cleaning, and nail trimming can be done at home, many owners prefer to use a professional groomer for regular trims and baths. Ultimately, this is a personal preference. A professional groomer can ensure your Cavapoo’s coat is properly maintained and styled.
  • What should I do if my Cavapoo’s coat gets matted?
If your Cavapoo’s coat becomes matted, use a detangling spray and a comb to gently work through the tangles. For severe mats, it’s best to seek the help of a professional groomer to prevent causing pain or injury to your dog.
  • Are there specific grooming products recommended for Cavapoos?
